The Temple of Al-Maharraqa was dedicated to Isis and Serapis and was originally located approximately 120 km (75 miles) south of Aswan in Lower Nubia at the southern border of the Roman Empire. In 1961 the temple was dismantled by the Egyptian Antiquities Service following the construction of the Aswan High Dam, and subsequently rebuilt just North of Amada with the Temple of Dakka and Ramesses II’s Temple of Wadi es Sebua.

Francis Frith (1822-98) was an English photographer and businessman. His company Francis Frith & Co. became the world’s largest photographic publishers. Between 1856 and 1860 Frith made three trips to Egypt and Palestine where he worked prolifically despite the difficulty of the wet collodion process. This process meant that Frith had to travel with many crates of chemicals and dark room equipment.
