This is one of the few oil paintings that belongs to Joaquim Sunyer’s Parisian period prior to 1910.

In 1910 a major Sunyer exhibition was organized at the Galerie Barbazanges in Paris, and a year later Sunyer exhibited at the Faianç Gallery in Barcelona, where he established himself as one of the representatives of Catalan Noucentisme.

The present work represents the church of Saint-Étienne-du-Mont, situated in the fifth district of Paris and close to Montparnasse, where the painter lived.
